NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball Trojans (2-2) rallied to win their home opener by beating Northwood University (0-1) 7-6 in 11 innings at Jackson Field, opening a three-game series on Friday.
The series is even at 1-1 all time with the Wolves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northwood took the lead with a run in the top of the third inning on a solo home run by Cole Brooks … the Wolves lead grew to 2-0 in the sixth on an RBI ground out scoring Khale Showers ,.. an inning later Showers put the Wolves up 3-0 with a fielder's choice scoring Michael Karam … Trevecca awoke in the seventh with a run on an error, Jordan Jackson reached on a hit-by-pitch and moved to second on a wild pitch and then on to third on a sac fly, Tarver Hayslip drove Jackson in when he reached on an error … the Trojan eighth started with a pair of walks (Dalton Mauldin, Bryant Goolsby) and a hit-by-pitch (John O'Dwyer), fueling a three-run inning – John Anderson singled down the right field line to drive in two and Shawn Wallwork drove in the final run when he grounded out, giving the Trojans a 4-3 lead … Northwood set the stage for extra innings with a three-run inning boosted by three walks, Showers was a factor again with an RBI groundout, scoring Kyle Ziegler to even the game at 4-4, Connor Kin put Northwood in front with an RBI groundout, scoring Brooks, Ryan Chargo stole home on a Trojan error to put the Wolves up 6-4 … Trevecca bounced back with a two-run bottom of the ninth, forcing extra innings, Ryan Mortensen singled to open the frame, Ethan Harrison reached on a hit-by-pitch, both moved up a bag on a sac bunt by Vanderpool, Dalton Mauldin hit a sac fly to plate one, then Bryan Goolsby doubled to tie the game … Trevecca scored the game winner in the bottom of the 11th when Trey Vanderpool reached on a single and moved to second with a stolen base setting the table for Dalton Mauldin who singled to right center, scoring Vanderpool to end the game

Trevecca visits the University of Southern Indiana next week for a three-game series with the Screaming Eagles who are receiving votes in the preseason Top 25. The teams have played seven times since 2016 with USI holding a 4-3 edge. The teams played two thrillers last season. USI won 3-2 in 16 innings on March first, while the Trojans rallied to win the last meeting, the following day, 4-3.
